INTRODUCTION TO SWAYAM

SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a massive open online course (MOOC) platform launched by the Government of India to provide free, accessible, and high-quality education to learners across the country. It is an initiative under the Ministry of Education (MoE) with the vision of ensuring that the best teaching-learning resources reach every student, especially those who do not have access to quality classroom instruction.

The platform was officially launched in 2017 as part of the Digital India and education reform initiatives. SWAYAM integrates technology with education, ensuring that no student is deprived of learning opportunities due to geographic, economic, or social barriers. It democratizes education by offering online courses from top institutions such as IITs, IIMs, IGNOU, NPTEL, NCERT, CEC, and other national coordinators.

SWAYAM hosts courses for school students, college learners, working professionals, teacher trainees, and lifelong learners. The platform promotes self-paced learning, flexible scheduling, credit transfer, and certification.


OBJECTIVES OF SWAYAM

SWAYAM was established with multiple educational, social, and technological aims. The major objectives are:

1. Access to Quality Education

To ensure that the best educational content created by top experts and institutions becomes available to every learner irrespective of geographical location.

2. Bridge the Digital and Educational Divide

To reduce inequality by providing free online learning opportunities for learners in rural and remote areas.
